Use apt-get instead of aptitude on Debian / Ubuntu

Reports from the field indicate that aptitude is not installed by default
on Ubuntu any longer, so go with the sure thing.  Also, aptitude has some
problems with resolving dependencies and may unnecessarily remove installed
packages.
