</link> is not valid HTML

Although the DTD *may* specify xhtml, since in practice we are serving
with Content-Type: text/html and
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
we should avoid tags that are illegal in html.

These errors are reported in chrome as:
    "Unmatched </link> encountered.  Ignoring tag."
